Title Defense: Lady Eagles 2018-2019 Basketball Preview

Tallahassee, Fla.,(www.franchisesportsonline.net) – The Tallahassee Community College Lady Eagles basketball team 2018-2019 season is just around the corner.  Expectations are very high this year, as the ladies of TCC are the defending national champions.  

The Lady Eagles will make their scrimmage debut on Oct. 6 for the Southeast JUCO Jamboree in Albany, Ga.  The first regular season game will take place in Tallahassee for the Seals Financial Tip-off Classic on Nov. 3.  The ladies will be facing the Central Georgia Technical College Titans. 

The Titans had a strong season last season, finishing 22-10, but their woes on the road haunted them all year long.  They were 7-7 away from their home arena.  On the flip side, TCC was 29-6 overall with a 10-2 home record. 

The Eagles could be a very strong team if everything goes as planned.  The team was very young last season, comprised of 11 freshmen and four sophomores.  A year of experience and a national championship under its belt makes this squad one to look out for in the 2018-2019 season.  TCC has also reloaded with some talented, young freshmen in addition to returning players.  These ladies are primed to make another run this year.

GAME PREVIEW: NOLES TAKES ON EAGLES

TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (www.franchisesportsonline.net) –  Florida State High Seminoles will go up against North Florida Christian Eagles on Friday at Florida High at 7:30 p.m.

The Seminoles (4-1) are coming off a 45-8 win over Gadsden County Jaguars (0-5). Florida State junior quarterback Bryson Hill finished the game with four completions on eight attempts for 65 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore running-back Alfred Menjor ended the game with seven carriers for 95 yards. Junior running back Willie Taggart Jr. rushed for ten yards with three carriers and one touchdown. Taggart Jr. also contributed at quarterback throwing the ball four times and completing them all for 58 yards.

Seminoles sophomore receiver Ahmari Harvey ended the game with three catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Raymond Woodie added 30 yards and one catch.

Junior linebacker Jacob Massey led the team in tackles, finishing with eight total. Adding to the mix with seven tackles was sophomore linebacker, Amarrie Harris.

North Florida Christian (4-2) is coming off a huge 30-0 win versus South Walton Seahawks (3-3). The Eagles freshman quarterback Drew Fauort ended the game with seven completions on seven attempts for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Junior running back Jonathan Riley finished the game with 16 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Senior cornerback T.J ward led the team in tackles with a total of seven.

The Seminoles average 28 points a game compared to the Eagles 20.

FSU To Hold Garnet and Gold Scrimmage on Oct. 14

TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (www.franchisesportsonline.net) – The Florida State University men’s basketball team will participate in a Garnet and Gold scrimmage on Oct. 14 at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center at 4 p.m.

The Seminoles will look to carry over their success from last season, which saw them going 23-12 with an Elite 8 appearance, losing to Michigan.

FSU will have 13 players from last season returning to the team, with seven of these players with 20 or more game appearances.

A reason for their success last year was redshirt junior forward Phil Cofer, who will be one of the five seniors on this year’s team. He would lead the Seminoles last season in points per game (12.8), minutes played per game (29.3) and total points (449). He would also rank second in total rebounds (178) and total field goals made (168).

Terance Mann, a 6’7″ senior guard, looks to be another contributing factor, as another returning as a starter. He would lead last year’s squad in total field goals made (171) and in total rebounds (185), while also coming behind Cofer in points per game (12.6) and place third on the team in field goal percentage.

University of Albany transfer David Nichols will look to play a role in this year’s team. During his three-year career at Albany, he would average 13.8 points per game, 2.8 assists and a field goal percentage of 42.5 percent.

After the Garnet and Gold scrimmage, FSU will partake in two exhibition games, with the first being against the University of West Florida on Oct. 26 and the other being against Valdosta State University on Nov. 1. Their first regular season game will be against the University of Florida on Nov. 6 at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (www.franchisesportsonline.net) –  The Florida A&M football team will go up against North Carolina Central Eagles (1-2) Saturday in Durham, NC at 4 p.m. on ESPN3.

The Rattlers (2-2 , 1-0) are coming off a 31 -13 win against Savannah State Tigers (0-3,  0-1). This was also a conference game for the Rattlers.

In the game, Rattlers quarterback Ryan Stanley ended the game with 14 attempts and 20 completions for 166 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Also, sophomore running back Bishop Bonnett finished the game with 94 rushing yards and one touchdown. He also contributed in the passing game with two catches for 70 yards and one receiving touchdown.

Senior running back Devin Bowers ended the game with eight carries for 53 yards. Running back Deshawn Smith also contributed with seven carries for 28 yards and one touchdown.

Leading the FAMU receiving group was redshirt freshman Xavier Smith, ending the game with five catches for 47 yards and one touchdown. Redshirt junior Marcus Williams finished the game with four catches for 44 yards.

North Carolina Central is coming off a 55-13 loss versus Duke Blue devils (4-0). Duke outgained the Eagles in passing and rushing yards. The Blue Devils had a total of 256 passing yards compared to the Eagles 56. Duke rushed for 372 yards in contrast to North Carolina Central’s 136.

This is a well-known conference game between the Rattlers and Eagles. Both teams are hoping to get a win to add on their conference record.
