While many Rattlers were still sleeping cozily, the FAMU Basketball Team braved the brisk fall morning weather to commence training for the upcoming 2011-2012 season in a scrimmage within the ranks….
The White Team, led by Redshirt Senior Isaac Brown and Roswell, Georgia native Amin Stevens, started off strong with scrappy defense and transition opportunities, exhibiting the up-and-down play that Head Coach Clemon Johnson promised to bring to Rattler Country. The Orange Team showed more cohesiveness on offense, with crisp guard play by Rickards High alum Avery Moore. Assistant Coach Chadrick Johnson ran the WhiteTeam; HC Clemon Johnson was in charge of the Orange Team.
The referees facilitating the scrimmage made sure to dissect in detail the nuances and alterations in rules for this year’s MEAC play, including post-play defensive positioning and outlet passing techniques in regards to elbow placement. On the court, 6’6” Forward Amin Stevens was a clear standout with decisive drives to the basket and fast-break dunks.
Overall, the team looked as well as one could look at this stage in the process, and post-scrimmage interviews with the coaches and players were centered around one goal: Winning the MEAC Championship.
