TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (franchisesportsonline.net) – FAMU DRS got off to a fast start on Thursday night and held off a second half rally to beat the Tallavana Christian Lion at home 82-69.

The Baby Rattlers were quick to put points on the board. They went on a 13–5 run to start the first quarter, taking control of the game early on.

FAMU DRS didn’t slow down at all during the first half. They defended the Lion with a vicious full court press that continuously forced turnovers and created lots of fast-break opportunities, leading them to a 44-23 halftime lead.

“We’re small overall,” said Baby Rattler coach Sean Crowe. “Our tallest guy is 6’2” – 6’3”, so we need to find a way to turn the other team over to get enough shots to score. We try to turn our defense into quick offense to score off of those turnovers.”

The momentum of the game started to shift early in the second half with FAMU DRS up 48–26. Tallavana Christian went on a 10–2 run, cutting the deficit to 14.

The Lion (5-8, 3-3) finally got within 10 points of the Baby Rattlers with 3:55 to play in the game after a 6–0 run made it 70–61. Their streak stopped there, however, as Dizavier Harris and Mekhi Yant both hit clutch threes for FAMU DRS to ice the game.

It was an all around effort for the Baby Rattlers (10-7, 6-0), as they had seven players score, and four reach double figures. Harris scored 16 for the game, Kaliah Wooden had 24 and Brandon Bryant and Caelen Thomas scored 10 apiece for FAMU DRS.

“I was really proud of the way our kids started out,” said Crowe after the game. “We played very hard in the beginning of the game. We’ve got to work on our second half defense, though. We gave up a few too many points. But overall, it was a good win for us.”

The Baby Rattlers play at Chiles on Friday, January 15, before heading to the MLK Tournament at Rickards High School on Monday, the 18th. Tallavana Christian plays Sneads a week from Monday, in their final home game of the regular season.
