The Tallahassee Community College baseball team dropped its third straight game on Monday in a 3-1 loss to the NJCAA No. 8/Region 8 No. 2 Santa Fe Saints.
Both teams were locked in a pitching battle early on. Going into the bottom of the fifth inning, neither team had given up a run or a hit. That all changed when TCC’s Chris Hawkins delivered a single off of Santa Fe pitcher Kyle Morton. However Morton kept the shutout going until Deyvid Silva drove home a run in the sixth. That would be TCC’s only run of the game.
The Santa Fe bullpen combined for three innings, striking out three and giving up no runs.
Tallahassee pitcher Brooks Buckler came out of the gates looking like he was ready to throw another gem. Coming into the game, he has pitched eight straight innings without giving up a run. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth, but after a single, wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly, the Saints scored twice in the inning.
In the next inning, Santa Fe’s Stephen Smith reached base on an error by TCC second baseman Josh Nothdorft. Smith then stole second base and later scored on a throwing error by Chris Clark.
Santa Fe only had three hits, but reached base through six walks and two batters hit by a pitch. TCC committed three errors.
This is the third straight loss for TCC after starting the season 5-0. They will play again on Wednesday against Florida State College at Jacksonville.
