TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (www.franchisesportsonline.net) – The Tallahassee Community College Eagles used a six-run sixth inning to win and give head coach Mike McCleod his 900th career win as the Eagles (9-10) defeated the Chattahoochee Valley Pirates (Ala.) 11-6.

All of  coach Mike McCleod wins have come during his 27-year tenure at TCC. During his time as an Eagle, his teams have won five Panhandle Conference Championships, most recently in 2013.

“I’m just very grateful that I’ve had the longevity to have associated with these young men,” said McCloud, who was also an assistant under Florida State head coach Mike Martin from 1982-1990. “What it means to me is just remembering all the times.”

Both teams traded runs in the first. CVCC’s Kurt Ornowski reached on an error and was later driven in by Carson Hughes. In the bottom of the inning, Jordan Curtis walked aboard and scored on a passed ball.

In the top of the third, Isaac Phillips got on board after Josh Nothdorft misplayed a ground ball. He later scored when A.J. Willoughby grounded out to first.

The Eagles and Pirates again went run-for-run in the fourth inning.

The Eagle’s offense exploded in the sixth. Curtis and Cole Vann both reached base on a walk and hit-by-pitch, respectively. Jack Hartman attempted to bunt them over for a sacrifice, but a perfectly-placed bunt allowed him to get on base as well to load the bases. Deyvid Silva drove a ball into left field to drive home Curtis for his second run of the game and his sixth of the weekend. Vann and Hartman scored on passed balls on two consecutive at-bats to give the Eagles the 5-3 lead. Haughton and Thomas also reached base to load the bases once again. CVCC relief pitcher Coleman Barbee fielded a ball hit by Nothdorft that should’ve ended the inning, but he threw it wide of his first baseman and allowed three runners to score and Nothdorft to make it to third.

Already with an 8-3 lead going into the seventh, the Eagles got more insurance thanks to a run by Vann and a two-RBI double by Thomas to put them up by eight.

Hunter Tinsley came in to pitch in the eighth inning and gave up three runs, including a two-run homerun by Jaylen Smith.

Malik Barrington closed out the game for the Eagles with a 1-2-3 ninth inning and two K’s.

Nick Marchese (7.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 2 K) picked up his first win of the season.
