TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (www.franchisesportsonline.net) – Timely hitting and lots of lightning lead Florida State to a weather-shortened 3-2 victory over Florida Gulf Coast.

Florida State (20-11) finished off the two-game sweep of the Eagles in a short, (4.5 innings) but official game.  Will Zirzow started on the mound for the Noles, going three innings while striking out five and allowing two runs on four hits.  The Seminoles’ three runs came off of six hits, including an RBI triple from Cal Raleigh, his first of the season.

Freshman southpaw Grant Stewart made his sixth appearance of the campaign, throwing two scoreless innings while striking out four and only allowing one hit.  While there wasn’t much to rave about this game, coach Mike Martin found his freshman quite impressive.

“It’s pretty impressive against an experienced team.  He showed a lot of poise, he was certainly a big part of this win.  Nice for him to get his first win as a Seminole” Martin said.

This abbreviated game comes one day after the Noles bested the Eagles 7-6 thanks to a walk-off double from Jackson Lueck in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Florida State looks to build on this two-game winning streak on the road this weekend as they take on North Carolina State (16-14) starting Friday night at 6:30 PM.  This series will be a bit of a homecoming for transfer first basemen Kyle Cavanaugh, who spent his freshman year in Raleigh.
