How the Seminoles can still make a Bowl Game

Jason Merry, Correspondent (@JasonMerryFS on Twitter)

TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (www.franchisesportsonline.net) – The Florida State University football team has gotten out to an abysmal 3-6 start to their season and a 3-5 start in conference play.  At this point in the season most players, coaches and fans would think this is just a lost season and there isn’t much to play for besides pride.  Even after this terrible start, the Seminoles can play for more than pride as they can still reach bowl eligibility at six wins.

The Seminoles have three games left and if they can win all three they will be sitting at 6-6 and surely make a bowl due to their eligibility and name. Recently Florida State rescheduled one of there games, that was not played due to Hurricane Irma at the beginning of the season, for December 2nd against Louisiana Monroe.

The three teams the Seminoles have left to play are Delaware State, Florida, and Louisiana Monroe in that order.  All of these games are winnable games, especially Delaware State and Louisiana Monroe two none “Power 5” teams. Florida will be the game that the Seminoles need to play their best.

The Gators also have a record of 3-6 but will be ready to play Florida State hard in their rivalry game.

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (franchisesportsonline.net) – Florida State football coach Jimbo Fisher came out optimistic and excited for the new football season in his opening weekly presser – as he should be.

“It’s that time again, isn’t it?” Fisher said. “I’m glad it’s that time. Getting ready to kick off this season. Very excited. Looking forward to playing somebody else, our guys I think are getting tired of playing each other.”

Florida State opens the season ranked fourth in both the AP and Coaches poll. The Seminoles are kicking off their season with one of the bigger openers this year, and in the past few seasons, playing the 11th ranked Ole Miss Rebels in Orlando. The Rebels, who are 4-0 in season openers under their head coach Hugh Freeze, finished 10-3 last season in the SEC, beating LSU, Auburn, and Alabama. Ole Miss lost a lot of players to the draft but is bringing back their most important star, quarterback Chad Kelly.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State put in its final preparation Thursday for its home game against Bethune-Cookman. The Seminoles welcome the Wildcats on Military Appreciation Day.

“Good Thursday,” said Florida State Head Coach Jimbo Fisher. “(I) liked it. We got a lot done, (looked) very sharp I thought. Glad we’re getting our focus, which we always worry about at the end of the week. But, good week of practice, a good hard week. Focus was good, concentration was good and execution was good on both sides of the ball. Got a lot done this week and I’m anxious to play. We have a great opponent. Bethune-Cookman is going to be ready to play. We need to bring our ‘A’ game and be ready to play.”

FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher announced after Thursday’s practice senior linebacker Christian Jones and sophomore defensive lineman Edddie Goldman have been suspended for Saturday’s game due to a violation of team rules. In their place, redshirt sophomore linebacker Terrance Smith is expected to make his first career start while veteran defensive lineman redshirt senior Demonte McAllister will start for the first time this season.

“There are going to be two guys suspended for this game for violation of team rules,” said Florida State Head Coach Jimbo Fisher. “Christian Jones and Eddie Goldman. Those guys will not be playing this week for us. It’s all correctable, it’s all done, but we have to abide by a certain set of guidelines.” Continue reading Fisher Announces Suspensions as ‘Noles Wrap Up Bethune-Cookman Preparation

FSU Makes History Saturday Against Iowa State

The Florida State University indoor volleyball team defeated fourth-seeded Iowa State in Minneapolis Saturday evening to advance to the school’s first ever NCAA Final Four.

FSU defeated Iowa State 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-11).

The Lady Noles trailed in set No. 5 by a 4-1 margin before head coach Chris Poole called a timeout to settle his team down.

“The girls just kept hanging in there, kept playing hard,” head coach Chris Poole told reporters. “I think the sets that we won, our block did pretty well. Our sets that we lost, our block didn’t do as well. So that was kind of the story of it, which we felt like coming up here that would make a difference if we could get our block going. You just have to give credit to our team first for the way they kept fighting, and certainly Iowa State didn’t back down and kept fighting to try to make us have to work even harder. I’m very proud of the girls for the work that they’ve put in over the past year to get to this point.”

The (3-3) Florida State Seminoles took on the undefeated (5-0) Nebraska Cornhuskers Sunday afternoon in the Donald Tucker Center, for an ACC, Big Ten face-off.
