The Florida A&M University Rattlers (7-18, 5-6) faced off in a MEAC battle Saturday, against the Howard Bison (7-18, 4-8).
The Rattlers defeated North Carolina A&T Monday night, and was looking for another much needed MEAC win.
The Rattlers were led by Amin Stevens with 24 points on 11-of-22 shooting. And, senior forward Yannick Crowder who finished the game with seven rebounds and four blocks.
After coming off a four-game losing streak, the Lady Rattlers were able to come together to defeat the Golden Eagles, Tuesday night at the Reed-Green Colliseum in Hattiesburg.
“It’s great to win,” head coach LeDawn Gibson told reporters. ” We played great basketball in the first half, and fell off some with their press in the second half. We solved the press and I was very pleased with the team effort.”
Senior Qiana Donald led the Rattlers with a double-double of 20 points and a game-high 17 rebounds that included 10 offensive rebounds.
Florida A&M’s newly appointed head basketball coach, Clemon “CJ” Johnson Jr., is ready for the task of improving the FAMU men’s basketball program.
Johnson was a premier player for the Rattlers from 1974-78, and still holds FAMU’s rebounding records, which includes: most rebounds in a game (25), most rebounds for a season (412) and most rebounds for a career with 1,494.
“He knows a lot about the game, and he has a lot of experience,” last year’s starting forward and leading scorer, Amin Stevens, said.
