Tallahassee, Fla. (franchisesportsonline.net) – Leon is coming off of an impressive 19-win season, champions of their division. Coach Rick Davis and the Lions hope they can build on last year’s success with an impressive showing in their season opener against West Gadsden. But with some new faces in the crowd, including nine new players (four by transfer), the transition won’t come easy.

The fourth quarter became the undoing of Leon Tuesday night. Jeremy Myers’ massive dunk midway through the fourth could not spark a rally, and Leon fell to West Gadsden 66-53.

West Gadsden turned up the defensive pressure and outscored the Lions 18-6 in the fourth. Myers left the game injured with two and a half minutes to play and would not return.

“We need to be more aggressive on both sides of the ball,” said Davis. “Also, we gave up too many second chance shots.”

A close game through three quarters fell out of reach for Leon. The Lions actually led at half time after Stanley Davis’ three-pointer beat the buzzer to give Leon a 33-31 lead.

“I knew it was a big shot,” said Davis. “And I knew that I had to make it for the team.”

Leon then jumped out to a hot start in the second half as Davis found Trejan Davis open for three. But West Gadsden relied on the consistent scoring of Card, who scored 11 points and put the Panthers back on top 48-47 heading into the fourth quarter.
