FAMU’s Antonia Bennett and Tameka McKelton were selected to the preseason All-MEAC team today, the MEAC announced. Entering their senior seasons, Bennett and McKelton look to repeat with postseason honors and guide the Lady Rattlers to a run at the MEAC title, according to Florida A&M Sports Information.
The Lady Rattlers are picked to finish fourth in the conference. Coming off a 15-15 season, 9-7 in the MEAC, the Lady Rattlers look to show some consistency for the entire year.
McKelton, returns as the leading scorer for the Lady Rattlers. She had a 16.5 points per game average last year. She scored 495 points, en route to eclipsing the 1,000 point career mark as just a junior. She also dropped in 49 three-pointers, grabbed 98 rebounds, dished out 47 assists and clawed 48 steals.
Bennett, who was a candidate for Team USA, in the Pan American Games, finished the season averaging 16.3 points per game. She grabbed 172 rebounds, tossed in 56 three-pointers, made 38 assists and clawed 61 steals. bennett also eclipsed the 1,000 point mark as just a junior.
The Rattlers also return defensive star Qiana Donald to the team. Donald grabbed 243 rebounds to lead the team last season.
Coach LeDawn Gibson has added to her depth with a talented field of recruits. The expectations are high for the Lady Rattlers to return to prominence.
