Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel avoided serious injury to his knee after taking a hit at the end of a scramble Thursday against Cleveland.

Buffalo coach Doug Marrone announced Friday afternoon that Manuel has been diagnosed with a sprained lateral collateral ligament – an injury that will keep Manuel out only for a few weeks.

Marrone said Manuel’s injury will not require surgery.
