Maurice Howard’s Game-Winner Downs Lincoln

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – The matchup between Rickards and Lincoln was anticipated to be an even game, and the final score indicated how close these two teams really are.

It could have been anyone’s game in the final minutes, but it was Maurice Howards layup with just six seconds left that gave Rickards the 58-56 win over Lincoln.

FAMU DRS Falls to Franklin County In OT

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – The Florida A&M DRS Baby Rattlers (12-12) lost a close game to the Franklin County Seahawks (11-13) by a score of 51-48 in overtime.

Junior guard Kalin Wilson hit the go-ahead foul shots with 18 seconds left in overtime to give Franklin County the win. Foul trouble and injuries hurt the Baby Rattlers chances late in closing the game out after leading at the half by 10. Seahawks freshman point guard Jan Lowe and sophomore center Nathan Jones combined for 23 points on offense.

Godby Rolls Over Chiles

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – The Godby Cougars went on a tear in their non-district game against Chiles, winning 94-47 at home.

The Cougars came out strong scoring the first seven points of game, and stayed ahead the rest of the contest. Godby (20-2, 7-0) put up a hefty 32 points in the first quarter, which can be attributed to their fast pace offense.

Lincoln Holds Off Chiles

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – The rematch between district rivals Lincoln and Chiles was sure to be an intensely hard fought game.

Lincoln took the first game earlier in the season, but Chiles came into the game having won six of their last seven games.

Chiles played from behind the majority of the game, but were able to take a one-point lead with three minutes left. Lincoln senior guard Kyle Kincey responded with a three to regain control of the game and the Trojans went on to defeat the Timberwolves 61-52.

Godby Escapes Upset-Minded Leon

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – A month after an early season blowout victory at home, the Godby Cougars waltzed into Leon High School to play the Lions for the second time this season. If they expected another easy win, they thought wrong.

Leon gave them everything they had this time. The Lions led by six with just under two minutes to play before Godby scored seven straight leading to a 63-60 win over Leon.

FAMU DRS Too Much for Tallavana Christian

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – FAMU DRS got off to a fast start on Thursday night and held off a second half rally to beat the Tallavana Christian Lion at home 82-69.

The Baby Rattlers were quick to put points on the board. They went on a 13–5 run to start the first quarter, taking control of the game early on.

Godby Takes Care of Short-handed Wakulla

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – Godby took advantage of a short-handed Wakulla squad en route to an 86-46 rout.

The War Eagles were able to compete with Godby in the first quarter trailing 10-9 with three minutes left in the first. Then the Cougars finished the period on an 18-4 run capped off by Tre Clemons layup as time expired, and Godby took control of the game.

Rickards Rides a Fast Start to Remain Undefeated

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – Rickards took advantage of a strong first half to stay unbeaten, holding on to defeat Leon 73 – 59.

Although Rickards was away, the Raider fans came out to support them in masses. Rickards (5-0) fans outnumbered the Lions support, giving the gym a home feel for the Raiders. They fed off this energy and scored 12 straight points to start the game. Deandre Barnhart scored six of them.

Barnhart went on to score all twelve of his points in the first half, leading the Raiders to a 44 – 23 halftime lead.

Wakulla Advances to 5A State Championship

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. ( – The game was tight for all four quarters, but Wakulla managed to pull away from the Clay for a 34-24 victory and earn a spot in the 5A State Final.

Wakulla head coach Barry Klees could barely contain his excitement after the game. “Well, were extremely happy, I can’t express enough happiness.”
