Chiles has Second Straight Winning Season with win over Leon

TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (www.franchisesportsonline.net– The Chiles Timberwolves football team defeated the Leon Lions 48-13 on Leon’s Senior Night.

Chiles running back Chase Gillespie would get the first points of the game with a four-yard touchdown run for the Timberwolves. This would make it 7-0 with 6:54 left to go in the first quarter.

Timberwolves running back Jalen Harring would add to their early lead with a 57-yard touchdown run, making it 13-0 with 1:09 left to go in the first quarter after a failed fake field goal attempt.

Only 1:44 into the second quarter, Chiles quarterback Garret Greene would rush for a touchdown of his own, this time from four yards out. The Timberwolves’ lead would extend to 20-0.

Leon would finally get on the board with 2:36 left to go in the second quarter with Lions quarterback Paxton Tomaini’s four-yard touchdown run. This would cut the Chiles lead 20-7.

The Timberwolves would answer back, needing only seven plays and one minute and 59 seconds to travel 63 yards. This drive would end in another rushing touchdown by Greene, this time from threeyar ds out. The Timberwolves would take the lead into the half, leading 27-7.

After an interception by Chiles linebacker Cameron Richardson, the Timberwolves would rush for another touchdown, their fifth of the game. This time, Chiles guard Sam Neely would rush for a one-yard touchdown, increasing their lead to 34-7.

The Lions would get on the board again, with quarterback Tomaini throwing to wide receiver Donovan Mobley for a nine-yard touchdown. The Chiles lead was cut to 34-13 after a failed PAT.

Chiles would add two more touchdowns, both rushing touchdowns by Gillespie, with the last being a 49-yard scamper.

Greene would end up going 12-24 with 133 passing yards, as well as rushing for 63 yards on 10 carries with two rushing touchdowns.

Gillespie would finish with 123 rushing yards on 13 carries and a team-high three rushing touchdowns. Running back Jalen Herring would finish with a touchdown of his own, with 73 rushing yards on the night on six carries.

Chiles head coach Kevin Pettis said that his quarterback never ceases to amaze him.

“Garrett Greene is Garrett Green,” Pettis said. “[He] is unbelievable and never ceases to amaze me. He did a great job tonight. He takes over games and he took over tonight.”

Pettis said both of his running backs are great players.

“Chase Gillespie might be the best freshman I’ve ever had, and I’ve had some great ones,” Pettis said. “Jalen Harring is just a touchdown-maker, but both are just great players.”

“Chase [Gillespie] is only a freshman, but he runs the ball so hard,” Greene said. “And with Jalen, he is a freak on the outside, so if we give him the ball in the open field, he’ll do some work.”

Chiles will end their season at Deltona High Schoolon Friday. Leon will end their season on Thursday against Mosley High School on Thursday at Gene Cox Stadium.
