TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (franchisesportsonline.net) – The Florida A&M DRS Baby Rattlers (12-12) lost a close game to the Franklin County Seahawks (11-13) by a score of 51-48 in overtime.
Junior guard Kalin Wilson hit the go-ahead foul shots with 18 seconds left in overtime to give Franklin County the win. Foul trouble and injuries hurt the Baby Rattlers chances late in closing the game out after leading at the half by 10. Seahawks freshman point guard Jan Lowe and sophomore center Nathan Jones combined for 23 points on offense.
The Baby Rattlers entered the foul bonus in both halves of the game. First with 3:10 left in the first half and again with 6:32 in the second.
“We got into foul trouble very quickly after playing up on them,” said FAMU coach Sean Crowe. “We gave them too many shot opportunities and didn’t get enough for ourselves.”
The last foul in the fourth quarter committed by Wilson resulted in a tie game at 42 with 1:39 remaining.
The Seahawks entered bonus as well. Once was with 57 seconds left in the first half. The second was with 45 seconds left in overtime. However it only resulted in one point for FAMU
The Baby Rattlers seemed to have the game in hand after missing 14 shots in the first quarter. FAMU DRS outscored Franklin County 21-4 in the second quarter alone. Senior Point Guard Brandon Bryant had nine points in this quarter. That included two back-to-back threes from the top of the arch.
As for the injuries, Junior Forward Kenyatta Colvin tweaked his ankle early in the third quarter and had to sit out for the remainder of the game.
“[Colvin] got hurt and that effected when we played our bigs,” Crowe said.
At 6-2, tied for tallest on the team, Colvin was greatly missed down the stretch. He ended his night with six points total.
Florida A&M will be facing Rickards this weekend for their Senior Day. Congratulations to the seven men on the Baby Rattlers for a great career at FAMU DRS.
