This week FAMU Athletics gave the football team some relief, bringing in the Head Coaches of all the sports in to speak about their seasons, current or upcoming. Basketball Coach Clemon Johnson drew laughs from the crowd of media and FAMU Staff when likening stout big-man Yannick Crowder to himself when he donned a Rattler jersey, as well as jovial gripes on the lack of records for blocks in the FAMU all-time stats, and how easy he recorded over three in a game.
Newly acquired Baseball Coach Willie Brown was also a crowd favorite, giving his pick in the World Series based on his respect for Albert Pujols’ hitting prowess, in addition to fondly joking of how great a hire he was for the university considering his previous employment at Maclay School and ties with high school coaches and players in the Tallahassee area. The admirable working relationship shared between Brown and Softball Coach Veronica Wiggins was also on display, as the two were visible discussing the sport together and mentioned each other’s high baseball IQ during casual banter with the press. Check below for a audio of our brief sit-down with Head Coach Wiggins:
Volleyball Coach Tony Trifonov, similar to his football counterpart Coach Taylor, spoke on the improvement of his team after rough patches against stiff competition. He also strongly encouraged all to support the team as they prepare to take on defending MEAC Champs South Carolina State. All in all, the Press Conference showed Rattler pride and unity amongst the generals of the brigade.
