Sporting a five-game winning streak heading into their match against BCC, the Lady Rattlers set the tone for their football program siblings by soundly defeating the Lady Wildcats in straight sets on an easy Sunday afternoon in Al Lawson Gym…
Taking advantage of Bethune-Cookman’s over-aggressive out-of-bounds shots by their outside hitters, the Lady Rattlers were clearly the more fundamentally sound team on the court. Sophomore front-line player Katherine Huarec’s powerful kill shots were also accurately placed behind the BCC defenders, and the Lady Wildcats had such a tough time penetrating FAMU’s wall that most of their points came from block attempts ricocheting back to the BCC sideline out of play. Lady Rattler Sophomore Setter Diana Gonzales’ 36 assists was the most for either team, while FAMU Libero Karol Marquez led the team with 19 digs and Huanec’s 15 kills was second only to BCC’s Krysta Gardner for the entire match. Check below for post-game thoughts from Maria Ceccarelli and Pamela Barrera:
Next the volleyball team will enter the MEAC Tournament where they look to return the Championship to FAMU. Before the NCAAs they will then take on South Florida to close out the season. The Lady Rattlers are on a roll right now and should return to their role as Queens of the Conference upon their return from Baltimore.
