Most teams seven games under .500 aren’t confident in their chances to win a conference championship. Yet with over 60 percent of the season played, the Lady Rattler Volleyball Team is deep within the hunt for another MEAC title after winning five of their last six matches…
By scheduling some of their toughest opponents early in the year, including regional programs such as Georgia, Auburn, and Miami, the FAMU squad is starting to click just at the right time, when victories usually against a conference foe determine the pecking order in a place the team is accustomed to being at the forefront of. During their recent practice players such as Junior MB Pamela Barrera expressed a strong desire to recapture the MEAC title they lost last year, which makes their next game against South Carolina State all the more intriguing, since they are the defending conference champs and the only team in the MEAC Florida A&M has lost to this season.
Head Coach Trifonov and Assistant Coach Portocarrero held a low-key, detail-oriented session that seemed to be tailored around helping the team offensively in the games ahead, including their next against the Lady Bulldogs. Hear what Barrera, along with Junior OH Marija Jovanovic and Sophomore Setter Diana Gonzales thought about their practice and upcoming big game below:
With Coach Trifonov’s points of emphasis being harped intently, keeping his players focused for what is to come seems to be priority one at this stage of the season. Expect the Lady Rattlers Volleyball Team to play with a slight chip on their shoulder against the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs.
