TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The rain stayed away Friday afternoon, enabling the 12th-ranked Florida State football team to complete their entire practice outdoors at the Albert J. Dunlap Practice Facility. The Seminoles returned to the practice field after a day off in full pads and practice for two hours.
“Today we got back to the basics of day one, day two,” said Florida State Head Coach Jimbo Fisher moments after practice on Friday. “(We’ll) repeat right back through the process and make sure we’re doing what we need to do. Pretty solid day and we’ll look at the film to see how practice went.”
“(The) Practice after the scrimmage – corrected some mistakes, got back to some basics and started repeating some things and went back through things,” he also said. “Now, it’s time to become detail oriented. I think our execution needs to go up. We need to go back and review everything we do and every detail and be able to control both lines of scrimmage, be able to throw the football and control blitzes.”
After reviewing film from the teams’ first scrimmage, Coach Fisher seemed pretty much pleased with his team’s performance, and also recognized a few of his older defensive players.
“I thought some of our older guys played well defensively. I thought (Timmy) Jernigan did,” said Coach Fisher. I thought Christian Jones and Telvin (Smith) played really well – (Lamarcus) Joyner, (Terrence) Brooks – they jumped out on defense. Offensively, (James) Wilder did some nice things.”
“Defensively, Mario Edwards played well and I thought Dan Hicks had a solid day,” he also said.
The Seminoles returned to the practice field Saturday morning for their second two-day practice of the preseason camp.
