TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Tiffany McCarty registered seven points on three goals and an assist in two games over the weekend to lead the Seminoles back to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the eighth year in a row. For her efforts, McCarty earned a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week.
FSU defeated Texas Tech, 3-2, in the second round thanks in large part to McCarty’s second two-goal performance of the postseason. Her first goal gave the Seminoles a one-goal lead in the second half, while the second was a golden goal in the 104th minute of double overtime. The goal gave McCarty the school record for career game-winning goals as it was the 13th of her career.
In Sunday’s third round action against Texas A&M, McCarty tallied a goal and an assist as the Seminoles rolled past the Aggies, 4-0. The Laurel, Md., native assisted on Dagny Brynjarsdottir’s goal in the 22nd minute to give FSU a 2-0 lead and gave the Seminoles a three-goal advantage with her first goal of the afternoon in the 71st minute.
The weekly honor for McCarty is her first in 2012. The redshirt senior forward has caught fire as of late scoring eight goals in her last five matches.
McCarty and the Seminoles are back in action on Friday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. when Florida State hosts Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
