Senior middle blocker earns second career ACC weekly award following performances over North Carolina and NC State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – Senior middle blocker Sareea Freeman has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week following her standout performances over the weekend against North Carolina and NC State, announced by the ACC today.

The Fresno, Calif. native led the Seminoles (14-2, 6-1) to two substantial wins over upper-echelon conference opponents at home. The versatile middle blocker combined for 22 kills, only four errors, a .500 hitting percentage and four blocks in two three-setters against the Tar Heels and Wolfpack.

More importantly, Freeman’s strong play helped elevated Florida State to a tie for first place in the conference with Miami. For the second consecutive weekend, Freeman has led Florida State in kills, kills per set and hitting percentage.

Over her last five matches, Freeman has led the Seminoles with a .575 hitting percentage while recording 52 kills as she continues to become a primary option for the team offensively. For the season, she is averaging 2.10 kills per set and hitting at a .445 clip while averaging 1.09 blocks per set. This past weekend, the preseason first team All-American by COBRA Magazine averaged 3.67 kills per set.

Freeman earns her second career ACC Player of the Week honor after garnering her first on Oct. 17, 2011 in wins over Georgia Tech and Clemson. In those matches, she combined to post 14 blocks in just six sets while recording a .300 hitting percentage in leading Florida State to two conference victories.

Freeman, who made an enormous impact in last year’s run to the NCAA National Semifinals, is on pace for a career year. She is looking to set career benchmarks in kills, kills per set and blocks per set. She has either tied or set single-match highs this season in kills (14 against Duke on Sept. 30), solo blocks (four at Miami on Sept. 7) and attack percentage (.722 versus Duke on Sept. 30).

Freeman’s honor marks the third Seminole this season to be named conference player of the week, joining Ashley Neff and Fatma Yildirim. She shared the honor this week with Miami middle blocker Alexis Mourning.

The 12th-ranked Florida State indoor volleyball team heads back on the road this weekend, facing Boston College on Friday and Maryland on Sunday.
