The Seminoles will face Mississippi Valley State on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Make it 13 years and counting for the ACC regular season champs in 2012. On Monday afternoon, the Florida State Women’s Soccer team secured an at-large selection to participate in the NCAA Tournament and was recognized for their outstanding regular season by earning one of four No. 1 national seeds in this year’s tournament. It marks the second straight year and third time overall that FSU has earned a top national seed.
“We played a very challenging schedule and I feel we were rewarded for that (this afternoon),” said head coach Mark Krikorian. “I have felt since I came to Florida State that the NCAA Committee has been very fair to us. We had a good season, a good seed and an opportunity to stay and play here in Tallahassee which is quite important to us.”
Florida State will open the tournament in Tallahassee on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m., against Mississippi Valley State, winners of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Friday’s first round match-up marks the second meeting between the Seminoles and the Devilettes as the two schools faced off in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament in Auburn, Ala., a match won by the Seminoles, 7-0.
“I have all the respect in the world for these teams,” added Krikorian. “They go and they compete and battle and put themselves into the tournament. My understanding is that Mississippi Valley State had to fight very hard in their conference tournament; they made their way through and we look forward to hosting them on Friday night. We know that they are going to come in here ready to play and we are looking forward to it.”
Florida State will host the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in school history and fourth year in a row. The Seminoles are 23-1-0 all-time when playing inside the friendly confines of the Seminole Soccer Complex during the NCAA Tournament.
Tickets will go on sale beginning Tuesday, November 6 and can be purchased over the phone at 888-FSU-NOLE, in person at the Seminole Ticket Office located in side C of the University Center and online at Seminoles.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the Seminole Soccer Complex beginning at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, November 9.
