TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State will host Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m., with the winner advancing to the College Cup in San Diego, Calif.
After posting victories over Texas Tech and Texas A&M last week, the Seminoles (19-3-0) clinched a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals for the eighth year in a row – the longest active streak in the nation. FSU is making its ninth all-time appearance in the Elite Eight.
Notre Dame (16-5-2) went in to Gainesville last weekend and defeated third-seeded Wake Forest (2-1) before shutting out second-seeded and host Florida, 2-0, on Sunday. The Fighting Irish are appearing in the Elite Eight for the 15th time in school history.
Florida State and Notre Dame are no strangers when it comes to meeting in the NCAA Tournament as Friday marks the fifth time these two schools will square-off in the postseason. The Seminoles and Irish faced each other in the postseason four straight years from 2006 to 2009 with the first two meetings coming in the College Cup and the last two in the quarterfinals (2008 in South Bend, 2009 in Tallahassee). Notre Dame has won the last two meetings and leads the all-time series 3-1-0.
