TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Kristin Grubka was tabbed TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Player of the Week after leading the top-ranked Seminoles to a pair of shutout victories over No. 22 Florida (1-0) and the College of Charleston (4-0) last week.
Grubka, who entered the weekend with three career goals, scored twice including the game-winners in both matches. The Melbourne, Fla., native scored the only goal of the match in a 1-0 win over Florida giving the Seminoles their first win at home over the Gators since 2006. Grubka found the back of the net on a header off a throw-in in the 10th minute to give FSU the one-goal advantage.
Against the College of Charleston, Grubka once again took advantage of a Seminole set piece scoring off a corner kick late in the first half as she flew through the box connecting on a header from 6-yards out for the first goal of the game.
The sophomore defender was also instrumental in leading the Seminoles to back-to-back shutouts as she played all 90 minutes in the backline in each game. Grubka and the Seminole defense yielded just seven shots on goal in 180 minutes of action over the two-game sweep.
Grubka and the Seminoles return to action this weekend with a home match against Cal State Fullerton on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m., followed by an away match at Arkansas on Sunday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. EST.
