The Seminoles pounded the Samford Bulldogs in the winner’s match-up Saturday, running away with an 8-1 victory in just under 160 minutes in front of a raucous crowd of 4,291 fans, media personnel, and pro scouts littered around Dick Howser Stadium…

Star third-baseman Sherman Johnson Jr. gave the ‘Noles all the confidence they needed against SU, who had splattered four HRs in their previous game against Mississippi State, with a top of the 1st inning lead-off bomb through right center-field. Considering the fact that HC Mike Martin observed Johnson slightly laboring pre-game with a minor arm tweak, the Senior from Tampa’s Alonso High had an even more inspiring day at the plate, finishing 2-4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Thanks to lights-out pitching by Brandon Leibrandt, who finished with 10 Ks in 8 innings of duty, and an explosion of 7 runs in the sixth and seventh innings (partly due to a grand slam by CF James Ramsey) FSU closed the door on SU and allowed themselves to sit comfortably heading into the final day of the Tallahassee Regional. On Sunday June 3rd at 6pm Florida State will play the winner of the Miss St.-Samford elimination game that starts at noon; if FSU loses Game 1 they will be afforded a rematch. If the Seminoles can somehow replicate their domination on Mike Martin Field against the Bulldogs, they should cruise on to Super Regional action at their home turf…
