GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State junior goalkeeper Kelsey Wys and Maryland junior forward Hayley Brock have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Players of the Week, announced by conference officials on Tuesday.
Wys led top-ranked Florida State to a pair of 1-0 shutout wins over No. 2/2 Duke and No. 14/15 Wake Forest in the Seminoles’ opening week of league action. She played all 180 minutes between the posts and totaled eight saves, while extending her shutout streak to 348 minutes.
On Thursday, Wys and the Seminole defense held Duke, who entered the week as the highest scoring team in the nation, without a goal for the first time this season and to just five shots on goal. She finished the match with four saves, one in the first 45 minutes and three more in the second half. The trend continued over to Sunday’s match against Wake Forest as the Coral Springs, Fla., native once again came up big in goal making four saves, two in each half, to help propel Florida State to its best start in program history at 8-0-0.
The weekly award in the second for Wys this year as she earned her first mention on August 28 after making four saves in a 1-0 shutout over No. 9 UCF in Orlando.
Wys and the Seminoles return to action on Friday, September 21 as Florida State hosts Jackson State at 5:00 p.m. Admission is free for all Seminole Soccer home matches.
