TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 23) The Lady Pirates of Hampton will be taking on the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers Basketball team this Saturday for the No. 1 spot in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. This will be the first meeting between both teams this season.
Both teams are currently tied for first place in the MEAC standings with a conference record of 12-1.
The Lady Pirates are currently on a five game winning streak, defeating Delaware State at home on Senior Night, 71-44. HU is led in scoring by senior guard Choicetta McMillian, who has a total of 351 points in 24 games and is averaging 14.6 points per game. Junior forward Keiara Avant leads the team in rebounds with 174 in 24 games, she is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.
FAMU has won their last two games, and received their 19th win of the season Monday against South Carolina State defeating them on the road, 75-69. The Lady Rattlers were on a 14-game winning streak before losing to the Howard Bison on the road, 68-61.
The Lady Rattlers are led in scoring by senior Antonia Bennett, who has a total of 463 points in 25 games and is averaging 18.5 points per game. She also leads the team in steals, blocks and rebounds with 238 rebounds.
The Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Rattlers last season at home, 88-49. The Lady Rattlers were without their leading scorer Antonia Bennett.
The MEAC battle for first place in the MEAC standings will take place this Saturday, at 4pm inside the AL Lawson Center.
