TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State’s Justin Gonzalez was named ACC Player of the Week for the first time in his career after leading the Seminoles to a 3-0 week including two wins over Maryland to help the Seminoles secure their eighth ACC series victory of the season.
After missing three games with a sore right hamstring, Gonzalez returned to the starting line-up in a mid-week match-up at Jacksonville. The junior shortstop recorded a single and scored a run against the Dolphins while playing phenomenal defense assisting on six putouts including on a ball up the middle in the bottom of the ninth with a runner on which he got to and threw over to first for the out.
Against Maryland, Gonzalez paced the Seminole offense hitting .600 (3-for-5) as two of his three hits left the yard. He crushed a two-run, opposite field shot in game one against the Terps, while driving in another run in FSU’s four-run third inning.
Gonzalez had a perfect day at the plate in game two of the series reaching base on all four plate appearances. After walking and scoring in his first at-bat in the second inning, Gonzalez stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the third and cleared them all as he hit a monster home run to left center for his second grand slam of the season and of his career. He would finish the game with a single and another walk his final two at-bats.
