TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( Oct. 4) – The Florida A&M Volleyball team extended their win streak to four as the Lady Rattlers defeated the North Carolina Central Eagles, 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-8), here Friday night at the Al Lawson Center in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action.
FAMU (6-6, 3-0 MEAC) had pair of Lady Rattlers to finish in double-digit kills as both Ginna Lopez-Chavez and Yeisha Arcia finished with 10 kills each. Both Katherine Huanec and Dei`Ja Martin recorded nine kills each for the Lady Rattlers. Diana Gonzales led the team in assists with 28, while Joanie Del Castillo led FAMU in digs with 15, followed by Arcia with 11.
In the first set, NCCU grabbed an early 10-5 lead, capped off by Kalin Russell kill.
FAMU would tie the set at 12-12 on an NCCU attack error, capping a 7-2 run by the Lady Rattlers. The Lady Rattlers would then go on a 13-5 run to win the set 25-18.
In the second set, FAMU would tie the set at 19-19 as the Lady Rattlers scored on a kill by Huanec, a service ace by Del Castillo and an NCCU attack error. The Lady Rattlers would go on to win the set as FAMU outscored NCCU 6-2, for the 25-21 win.
In the final and third set, the Lady Rattlers would score in bunches as they defeated the Lady Eagles 25-8, for the 3-0 win.
NCCU (0-19, 0-2 MEAC) was led by Da`Sha Brown with seven, followed by Kelsey Murphy with five. Alice Genna led the Lady Eagles in assists and digs with 11 in each category.
