SAVANNAH, Ga. (Sept. 27) – The Florida A&M Volleyball team picked up their first conference win of the season as the Lady Rattlers defeated Savannah State, 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17), here Friday evening at Wilcox-Wiley Gymnasium.
FAMU(4-6, 1-0 MEAC) was paced by Ginna Lopez-Chavez with 11 kills, followed by Katherine Huanec with 10. Diana Gonzales led the Lady Rattlers in assist with 26, while Huanec led the team in digs with 10.
In the first set, the Lady Tigers tied the set at 10-10 on a FAMU attack error. FAMU would then go on a 12-4 run to take a 22-14 lead, capped off by a Dei` Ja Martin kill.
SSU would score their last point of the set on a FAMU attack error as the Lady Rattlers would score their next three points on a two kills and SSU attack error for the 25-15 win.
FAMU won the second set 25-17 and the third set 25-18 for the 3-0 win.
SSU (0-17, 0-1 MEAC) was led by Bryana Gadis with six kills, while three other Lady Tigers finished with four kills each. Caitlyn Masoe led the team in assists with 14, while both Asiha Williams and Alexis Washington led the Lady tigers in digs as they both finished with six digs each.
FAMU will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 29 as they will travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs in a 1 p.m. match.
