Lady Rattlers Pick Up A Pair In Sugar Bowl Tourney

NEW ORLEANS, (Oct. 21)  The Florida A&M Bowling Team picked up a pair of wins this past weekend as they participated in the 2013 All-State Sugar Bowl Collegiate tournament this past weekend, hosted by Tulane University.
On the first day of competition in Baker play, FAMU faced Prairie View A&M in their first match as the Lady Rattlers pulled out a 727-703 win over the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Rattlers would drop their next four Baker matches as Alabama State defeated the Lady Rattlers, 672-615 in their second match; Texas Southern defeated FAMU, 751-720 in the third match. 
The Lady Rattlers dropped a 681-675 heartbreaker to Sam Houston State in the fourth match and suffered a 761-738 defeat to Alabama A&M in their final baker match of the day.
In head-to-head competition, the Lady Rattlers defeated Tulane University, 765-726 in their third match.  FAMU dropped a 1,077-970 decision to Stephen F. Austin in their first match, fell to arch-rival Bethune-Cookman in the third match, 869-792 and dropped an 829-818 heartbreaker to Jackson State in their final match of head-to-head competition.
On the final day of competition, the Lady Rattlers dropped 4-1 decision to Jackson State in the best of seven Baker’s play.  In the first match, FAMU grabbed the 1-0 lead in the match as they defeated JSU, 164-157 in the first game.   The Lady Tigers would tie the match at 1-1 as they edged the Lady Rattlers 182-178 in the second baker game.  
JSU would take a 2-1 lead in the competition as they defeated FAMU 211-176.  The Lady Tigers would win the match as they edged the Lady Rattlers 168-167 in the four game and 189-180 in the fifth game.
FAMU was led by Carrie Hopkinson as she tallied a 949 total pinfall and recorded a match high as she bowled a 244 against Stephen F. Austin in the first game. 
Behind her was Katherine Jones as she recorded 911 total pinfall and bowled a game high 204 in the Lady Rattlers win over Tulane in their fourth game of head-to-head competition. 
Victoria Jones recorded the third highest pin fall with a 670 total, followed by a Lauren Julun with 670, Carrie Jefferies with 637 and Breanna Bisbee as she recorded a 252 total pinfall in the two games that she bowled in.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action as they will travel to Greensboro, N.C. to participate in their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference  Southern Division match, Nov. 9 through Nov. 10.
