Lady Rattler Volleyball Team Preseason Favorites

The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers and Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks were picked as the preseason favorites in the northern and southern divisions for the second consecutive year.

Florida A&M posted a 7-1 conference mark and 12-15 overall record in the 2010. The Lady Rattlers welcome back two key returnees Junior Pamela Barrera and sophomore Katherine Huanec.

Seminole Soccer Kicks Off

The Seminole soccer team kicked off their season Wednesday morning, with their first official practice.

The soccer team began their practice on the field for their first official practice of the season. Head coach Mark Krikorian and his staff opened practice this morning with a fitness test and technical drills to start the preparation for the first game against Oregon State August 19.

FSU’s Women Basketball Coach Helps Lead USA Team to Gold

Team USA Earns 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship 

The 2011 USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Championship Team defeated Spain 69-46 on Sunday night in Puerto Montt, Chile, to earn the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship gold medal. 

This marks the second world championship gold medal for seven of the USA’s players, who were all on the team during the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship last summer in France.

Sylvester Signs With Falcons

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 26, 2011) – FAMU’s fourth leading rusher of all-time, Philip Sylvester, has been invited to the Atlanta Falcons camp as a free agent after enduring the delay of the lockout. Sylvester, finished his career with 2,998 yards rushing, carrying the Rattlers on his back, with six consecutive 100-yard games to spark a six-game winning streak to end the 2010 season.

Sylvester said, “I feel great to have another opportunity to get on the field and represent FAMU, my city and my county. My agent called me around 9:30 p.m. last night and then a representative from the Falcons called this morning. I’m packing and getting things in order to leave.”


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 26,2011) – Tallahassee Community College softball player Kirsten Grant has signed a national letter of intent with North Carolina State University.

Grant, who is from Oakville, Onatrio, was the staring catcher for Coach Patti Townsend’s Eagles as a freshman in 2011. She will have three years of eligibility remaining with Wolfpack.

Grant was named First-team All-Pandhandle Conference after batting .341 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in 51 games in 2011. She has also earned three all-tournament nods – Gulf District, FCSAA and NJCAA.

Grant also competed in the Canadian Open Fastpitch (Futures Gold) International Championships July 11-17, where she helped Canada to a second-place finish. She appeared in eight games during the tournament and batted .500 with six runs scored and five RBIs.
