Rattler Offense Looks Sharp In First Scrimmage

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.(Aug. 18)– The Florida A&M Football team held their first scrimmage of fall camp as the Rattler offense scored three touchdowns, here Saturday morning at the Rattler practice field.

Sophomore quarterback Damien Fleming, showed his maturity as he completed his first six passes in a row. He would finish the series completing seven passes in eight attempts for 80 yards with his longest pass completion being to Al-Terek McBurse for 23 yards.

The Rattlers had two big plays nullified due to false start penalties, a 57-yard reception to Travis Harvey from Fleming and a 28-yard TD reception to Harvey once again from Fleming.

Fleming would finish the scrimmage completing 14 of 20 passes for 162 yards and one TD.

Senior running back Eddie Rocker would score a pair of TDs from 34 and five yards out as he finished the scrimmage with 85 yards rushing on 11 carries. His 34-yard scamper came on the first play of the series, while his five-yard run came, during the Rattlers’ goal line series.

Junior tight end Michael Etheridge was a hot target for Fleming as he caught three passes for 53 yards including one TD reception for 30 yards.  Red shirt sophomore wide receiver Lenworth Lennon, grabbed a pair or receptions for 24 yards.

The Rattler defense recorded seven sacks in the scrimmage to go along with a pair of interceptions by senior defensive back Marvin Ross and junior defensive back Michael Stephens. Ross recorded a 47-yard interception return for TD, while Stephens recorded a two-yard interception return.

FAMU will return to the Rattler practice field on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Then next Saturday, Aug. 25, FAMU will hold its annual Fall Orange and Green Game at 6 p.m. in Bragg Memorial Stadium.

The Rattlers will open their season against Tennessee State on Saturday, Sept. 1 at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn., in the Big John Merritt Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST.
