Rattlers Can’t Handle ASU Sun Devils In 97-70 Defeat

TEMPE, Ariz. ( Nov. 18) – In their first game of the Las Vegas Invitational, the Florida A&M Men’s Basketball team dropped a 97-70 decision to a red hot Arizona State team, here Sunday afternoon at Ned Wulk Court.

FAMU (0-3) was led by Jamie Adams as he scored a game-high 24 points, followed by Reggie Lewis with 16, to round out the cast of double-digit scorers for the Rattlers. Lewis led FAMU on the boards with six, while the Rattlers had five players to dish out two assists on the night.

ASU (2-0) had five Sun Devils to finish in double-digit scoring as Jahil Carson led all ASU scorers with 20 points. Chris Colvin added 14 points, followed by Jordan Bachynski with 14. Jon Gillings and Carter Felix rounded as the cast of Sun Devils in double-digit scorers as they both finished with 13 points each and Gillings tallied 15 boards to finish with a double-double on the night.

The Sun Devils opened the first stanza with a 10-2 lead on a Carson jumper at the 16:00 mark of the half. They would extend their lead to much as 27-10 as they used a 17-8 run, capped off by a Felix layup with 9:16 to in the half.

FAMU would close out the half with an 11-6 run as the teams went into the break trailing 45-32.

The Rattlers finished the first half shooting 34 percent (10-of-29), while the Sun Devils shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33).

FAMU opened the second half with a 10-5 run as they cut ASU’s led to 53-43 on a Markee Teal layup with 16:01 to go in the game.

The Rattlers would then cut the Sun Devils’ lead to 57-52 on an Adams three-pointer with 12:24 to go in the game, capping a 9-4 run by FAMU.

ASU would answer with 14-3 run to take an 85-64 lead on a pair of Carson free throws with 5:06 left in the game.

FAMU would score just six more points in the final five minutes of the contest as ASU went on to win 97-70.

The Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 20 as they will to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the University of Arkansas in their second contest of the Las Vegas Invitational.
