The Florida A&M University Rattlers (7-18, 5-6) faced off in a MEAC battle Saturday, against the Howard Bison (7-18, 4-8).
The Rattlers defeated North Carolina A&T Monday night, and was looking for another much needed MEAC win.
The Rattlers were led by Amin Stevens with 24 points on 11-of-22 shooting. And, senior forward Yannick Crowder who finished the game with seven rebounds and four blocks.
The Bison controlled the lead early, taking a 10 point lead (20-28) with 3:56 remaining in the first period. Which was also the highest lead of the game for the Bison. The Rattlers went into the half down by six, 34-28. But, was able to come out of the second half with a 14-0 run which gave FAMU their largest lead at the 16:41 mark, 44-34.
But, Bison bench players Calvin Thompson and Tre Lee were the two who gave the Bison their edge late in this match-up. Red-shirt junior guard Thompson led the team in scoring with 15 points. He was also 4-for-4 on free throws.
After being down by eight points, FAMU was able to come within one point (70-69) at the :9 mark in the game. After a made free throw by Lee, the Bison went up, 71-69. Amin Stevens then missed a last second layup that would have sent the game into overtime.
The Rattlers will travel to Georgia next weekend to face Savannah State Saturday in another MEAC match-up.
