LOUISVILLE, KY (Oct.13) The Florida A&M Rattlers cross country team continued to show improvement as they took 5th place in their division of the NCAA pre-national cross country meet, hosted by the University of Louisville.
Elias Chesire took 10th place overall, in one of his most impressive outings of the season. Chesire ran 24.34.0 to lead the Rattler squad. That improved on his previous best time in a national-caliber meet, when he ran 24.41.37 in the Mountain Dew Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.
Following at a close second on the team, and 12th place overall, was Shuaib Winters. Winters turned in an impressive performance of 4:58/mile average, carding a total time of 24:39.7, edgin Darren Barlow of Virginia Tech by .2 of a second.
Kevin Marindich took 35th place overall, finishing in 25:25.7, averaging 5:07/mile. Antony Kimaiyo finished 101st, with a time of 26:18.5, while Lamere Buchanon placed 112th in 26:30.9. Dieumy Duclos took the No.119 spot, coming in at 26:36.1 to close out the Rattlers in the meet.
As a team, the Rattlers finished fifth in the division, scoring 261 points. The Rattlers finished just in front of the University of Memphis and Clemson University. The Rattler effort bested the Norfolk State Spartans, who finished 18th as a team in the meet. The Spartans are the defending MEAC cross country champions.
The Rattlers will continue preparations for the MEAC Championship meet in Princess Anne, MD on Oct.27.
