GAINESVILLE, FL (Sept.15) – Coach Wayne Angel felt that his Rattler cross country team was on a mission to earn respect at the Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday. The team did just that, coming in fourth overall in the meet that features over 1,600 athletes and some of the top college teams in the region.
Elias Cheshire and Shuaib Winters continued to pace the Rattlers. Cheshire ran 24:41.37 in the 8K, earning him fourth place overall in the collegiate division. Winters would follow, taking fifth place overall in 24:49.33. Rattler newcomer Kevin Marindich took 19th overall in a time of 26:03.37. Diemy Duclos and Lamere Buchanon rounded out the team. Duclos carded a time of 26:40.85 and Buchanon ran a 27:18.75.
To put the success of the team in perspective, the University of Florida was the only school to have its No.1 and No.2 runners to finish in front of FAMU’s. The total margin between those top four runners of UF and FAMU was less that 25 total seconds.
Placement for the meet was as follows: 1) Florida, 2) UNF, 3) Embry-Riddle, 4) FAMU, 5) FGCU, 6) Northern Kentucky, 7) Augusta State, 8) Florida Southern, 9) Miami, 10) Morehouse, 11) Florida Tech, 12) Florida Running Club 13) FAU, 14) Flagler, 15) Webber, 16, St. Leo and 17) Stetson.
The Rattlers travel to Daytona Beach to compete in the B-CU Invitational this Friday at 5 p.m.
