Lady Noles Add More to their List of Accomplishments

The sixth seeded Florida State added more accomplishments to their 2011 season, Friday night. As the lady Noles defeated second-seeded Virginia, in the second semifinal of the league championship at WakeMed Park. The win marked the Seminoles’ first victory over the Cavaliers in school history.

The win for Florida State was its fifth straight, while the Seminoles improved to 7-6 against ranked foes in 2011 including 5-4 on the road.

FSU Advances in ACC Tournament with Win Over UNC

The No. 12  Lady Noles defeated the No.8 North Carolina in extra time Sunday afternoon with the help of Jessica Price, who found the back of the net to give Florida State a 1-0 victory in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals at Fetzer Field.

The win advanced the sixth-seeded Seminoles into the semifinals of the ACC Tournament where they will square-off against second-seeded Virginia.

“This was a big win for our program,” said head coach Mark Krikorian.  “Everyone knows that success in women’s soccer goes through UNC, so to come in here, be on the road and to win in overtime is a credit to our players’ hard work and resilient behavior.

According to seminoles.com, with the win, Florida State also created a bit of history on Sunday handing the Tar Heels their first ever loss in the ACC Tournament.  UNC was 58-0-4 entering the quarterfinal match on Sunday.  It also marked the first time the Tar Heels have lost three straight games in their 33-year history. The win was the first for the Seminoles in Chapel Hill (1-7-2), while it marked the first win over UNC in 11 tries in the ACC Tournament.

FSU Faces UNC in the ACC Tournament

The Florida State soccer team clinched the sixth-seed in the ACC Tournament with a 5-5-0 record and 15 points this season. The Seminoles will face third-seeded North Carolina in the quarterfinals tomorrow after at 1:00 p.m.

The Tar Heels closed their regular season with 19 points and a league record of 6-3-1. UNC defeated FSU at home 2-0 in the regular season.

Sunday’s quarterfinal match-up will be the 11th meeting between Florida State and North Carolina in the ACC Tournament, according to seminoles.com.

“When you go and play at Carolina, it is always going to be a tough game,” head coach Mark Krikorian told reporters.  “We played them earlier this year at our place and I don’t think we had our best performance on that day. They took advantage of it and capitalized on a couple mistakes that we made.  We know that they are going to be a good team.  They have certainly won their share of games over the course of time and it will be a tough first round test for us.”
