TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (www.franchisesportsonline.net) – For the first time in over a year, Deondre Francois will trot onto Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium as the starting quarterback for the Florida State Seminoles.

Francois last appeared in the opening game against Alabama last September in Atlanta, Ga.  Francois exited the game in the fourth quarter after being tackled from behind. Later that week, it was revealed that he tore his patellar tendon in his right knee, and would miss the remainder of the 2017 season.

The redshirt junior won ACC Rookie of the year honors in 2016, posting a 20:7 touchdown-to-interception ratio and 3,350 yards with a 142.1 quarterback rating.

Francois was also competing with redshirt freshman Bailey Hockman and sophomore James Blackman, who replaced Francois last year.

Seminole fans have been longing for the start of this season after the hiring of head coach Willie Taggart. Last season’s 7-6 record was the worst at FSU since 2009.

No. 19 FSU opens the season against No. 20 Virginia Tech on Monday, Sept. 3 at 8 p.m.

By: Max Fay

TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (franchisesportsonline.net) – Godby raced out to a six-run lead after the first inning and didn’t let up. The Cougars tallied 14 runs before the night was over, run-ruling Madison County 14-0 after 4 ½ innings.

Sophomore pitcher Logan Lacey starred on the mound for Godby (2-4), throwing a five-inning shutout and striking out eight along the way. Adam Cromer went 2-for-3 on the night, and Eddie Wright went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for the Cougars.

CJ Bell singled off Lacey to start the game for Madison County (1-4), but he would be one of only three Cowboys to reach base all night. Godby scored all six of its first inning runs with two outs. Wright opened the scoring with a two-run single, and the rest of the lineup followed suit. Six of the next seven Cougar batters put the ball in play.

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.  (franchisesportsonline.net) – The undefeated Godby boys’ basketball team won 4A-2 District Championship with ease, but Madison County didn’t go out without a fight. In the end it wasn’t enough, as the Cougars regained their style of play to close out the game with a 74-58 victory.

“We try and work on all the things that we do, and do it well,” said Godby coach Andrew Colville on the focus of his team play going into tonight’s game. “Try playing hard, guard people and run our offense. It pretty much doesn’t change game to game.”

Londell King Leads the Way For Godby

By Max Fay

TALLAHASSEE, FLA., (franchisesportsonline.net) – Godby took care of business against Florida High in their first playoff game, coming away with an 83-53 victory. Godby’s frontcourt was just too much for the Seminoles to handle. Cougar big man Londell King finished the night with 23 points and forward Jaylin Stewart added 14 points.

Florida High (5-19) came out in a 2-3 zone defense in an attempt to keep Godby’s long athletic bigs from getting easy baskets down low. The strategy worked to start the game. The Cougars (27-0) struggled to find their rhythm early on, and Florida High took advantage of some sloppy ball handling, recording five steals in the first six minutes of the game.

Broderick Simpson’s three-pointer gave the Seminoles a 12-11 lead, but unfortunately that would be their last of the night. Godby responded with a 26-0 run capped off by a reverse layup from Stewart. During that eight-minute stretch, Godby held the Seminoles to 0-for-14 from the field and forced five turnovers.

“We started off a little slow,” said Godby coach Andrew Colville. “We started the game shooting too many outside shots instead of taking advantage of our post presence, but we’re going to get everyone’s best shot. We just have to come out and make sure every night we bring it.”

It was Godby’s transition offense that had Florida High on their heels in the first half. The Cougars converted 16 fast break points in the first half alone and took a 43-17 lead into halftime.

East Gadsden (8-19) started the game flat, allowing Madison County (15-9) to jump out to a 23-5 lead after the first quarter.

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (franchisesportsonline.net) – The media frenzy surrounding National Signing Day highlights recruiting classes and rankings. Stars next to names seem to tell the story to fans, but for the players putting their name on paper this day means so much more.

They made a decision, but more importantly they are making a commitment to a university and a team for the next four years. Godby has 11 such commitments thus far and hopes to add a few more signatures to that list in the coming weeks.

“This is their future,” Godby Coach Todd Lanter said. “Again that’s a million dollars worth of scholarships that we signed up there on the stage. This is a chance for them to have a quality life. I think that’s what is important. If we can get these other three or four signed we’ll be very happy.”
