The sixth seeded Florida State added more accomplishments to their 2011 season, Friday night. As the lady Noles defeated second-seeded Virginia, in the second semifinal of the league championship at WakeMed Park. The win marked the Seminoles’ first victory over the Cavaliers in school history.
The win for Florida State was its fifth straight, while the Seminoles improved to 7-6 against ranked foes in 2011 including 5-4 on the road.

Tenth-ranked Florida State gets close, but know cigar for the top ranked soccer team. The Noles kept the score close all night Saturday against No. 8 Virginia, but it wasn’t enough.
“Virginia is a good team,” said head coach Mark krikorian. “They played good soccer. It was a good game, good fight, but unfortunately for us we did not do everything we needed to do to win the game.”
Tiffany McCarty, Brynjarsdottir and Huster all scored for the Seminoles on Saturday night in front a packed crowd of 1,590 inside Klockner Stadium, according to seminole.com.
McCarty’s goal was the 40th of her career bringing her into a tie with Cindy Schofield as the all-time leader in goals at Florida State. Brynjarsdottir tied a career-high against the Cavaliers with three points on a goal and an assist.
