TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (www.franchisesportsonline.net) – The Rickards Raiders showed much improvement this past week, as they started fast and finished strong on last Friday night.
After last weeks 45-33 loss to East Gadsden, the Raiders came out with a chip on their shoulders, and it showed early and often, as they defeated Florida High 46-26.
Raiders QB Charlie Kelly kicked off the night with a bolting 50-yard pass for the opening touchdown to put Rickards up, 6-0.
Florida High would respond with a 13-yard touchdown from Josh Davis to put the Seminoles up, 8-6, after Khari Lewis’ 2-point conversion.
But, the Raiders would never trail for the rest of the night.
In what seemed like the play of the game, playmaker Jalen Ashby took a handoff 64 yards for a score to spark a run of 27 straight points for the Raiders, giving them a commanding 33-8 halftime lead.
Darryll Copeland kicked off the second half with a 98-yard kick-off return for a touchdown for Florida High to start the Seminoles second half of play.
Darius Harvey 33-yard touchdown strike to receiver Matt Donaldson, and some stiff Seminole defense cut the Raiders’ lead to 33-20 at the end of the third quarter.
Rickards would cement their lead with touchdowns in the fourth from Amion Carridine and Devin Head.
Rickards will travel to Lincoln High School this week to face the Trojans who are ranked 3th in the state. Florida High will also go on the road to play P.K Yonge in Gainesville, both games kickoff at 7:30 pm.
